SLIFT’s previous albums were “fantasias”—genre-spanning, improvisational records that often spiraled into long, exploratory jams, especially on 2024’s Ilion with its 10–13 minute sci-fi epics. But Fantasia is their leanest and most direct record yet, eight songs under 50 minutes, and still “their most riveting album yet,” focused on a pointed story about upheaval and resistance.

They aimed to “recognize the turmoil of these days” and keep the message clear by playing less, building songs from concise ideas and often recording them in single takes. The result is still intense and complex, but more focused, carrying the message: “Together, we can still change the times in which we live.”
