Dopethrone’s second album, originally released in 2011.
“The riff comes in many forms. Sometimes it’s clean, catchy and elegant. Sometimes it’s filthy, grimy and about as elegant as a sledgehammer to the sternum. Dopethrone is the latter.” (Church of the Riff)
Dopethrone has been slinging their unapologetically heavy and despicably evil riffs for the better part of a decade, having self-released their first album in 2009. They immediately won themselves a name in the stoner metal community for their no-frills, no-filler approach to sludge metal, enveloping listeners in a bleak and oppressive atmosphere.
Dark Foil, originally self-released in 2011 and later reissued by France’s cult label Totem Cat Records, is the band’s second full-length album. Building upon the demonic sound established in their debut, Dark Foil grabs listeners by the throat from the get go. The record’s huge, crisp production is offset by creepy sound clips, perfectly setting the scene for one of the defining albums of the 21st century sludge scene.
Dark Foil is available via Stickman Records on purple haze vinyl, limited worldwide to 500 copies, and CD.
