Back in stock: Needlepoint and Local Store
We’ve got more records in from our Norwegian friends at BJK music, including back catalog from the world’s best Canterbury prog band Needlepoint as well as the debut from folkish-indie rockers Local Store.
Local Store – Magpie and the Moon (LP)
Lovely indie rock from Needlepoint mastermind Bjørn Klakegg and friends. Instead of leaning on Klakegg’s jazz background, Local Store channel the lighter side of 60’s and 70’s psychedelic rock and pop with a folky Canterbury tinge.
Needlepoint – The Woods Are Not What They Seem (LP)
Originally released in 2010, The Woods Are Not What They Seem saw Needlepoint advancing from their jazzier origins towards a more atmospheric progressive rock sound. Fans of John McLaughlin or Terje Rypdal will find this album right up their alley.
Needlepoint – Aimless Mary (LP)
Aimless Mary is the album that acquainted – and enamored us – with Needlepoint. The first in the band’s catalog to feature vocals from guitarist Bjørn Klakegg, this record jumped from the band’s earlier jazzish output straight into Canterbury prog, wowing straight through with unusual hooks and stunning musicianship. The vinyl version includes a CD.
Needlepoint – The Diary Of Robert Reverie (LP)
Needlepoint’s second album is a Scandinavian prog-rock masterpiece, replete with pastoral, Canterbury-style melodies and fantasy-filled lyrics. “A perfect example of prog/psych rock executed at its best.” – Allaboutjazz.com
